AS / NZS ISO 8124 is the Australian toy testing standard. It mainly includes 7 parts: AS / NZS ISO 8124-1, AS / NZS ISO 8124-2, AS / NZS ISO 8124-3, AS / NZS ISO 8124. -4, AS / NZS ISO 8124-5, AS / NZS ISO 8124-6, AS / NZS ISO 8124-7.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-1: Safety issues related to mechanical and physical characteristics

The requirements in AS / NZS ISO 8124-1: 2018 apply to all toys, that is, any product or material designed or explicitly intended for use by children under 14 years of age. They apply to toys because they were originally received by the consumer and, in addition, they apply to toys after they have been subjected to reasonably foreseeable conditions of normal use and abuse, unless otherwise stated.

The requirements of this document specify acceptable criteria for the structural characteristics of the toy, such as shape, size, contour, spacing (eg, rattles, small parts, sharp points and edges, and hinge clearance) and acceptable characteristics. Certain categories of toys (such as the maximum kinetic energy value of non-elastic pointed projectiles and the minimum sharp angle of some riding toys).

AS / NZS ISO 8124-1: 2018 specifies requirements and test methods for toys used by children of various age groups from birth to 14 years of age. Requirements vary based on the age group of a particular toy. The requirements for specific age groups reflect the nature and expected mental and / or physical ability of children to respond to harm.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-1: 2018 also requires appropriate warnings and / or instructions for the use of certain toys or their packaging. Due to possible language problems in different countries, the wording of these warnings and instructions is not specified, but is given as general information in Annex B. It should be noted that many countries have different legal requirements with regard to such marking.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-1: 2018 is not intended to cover or include all possible potential hazards for a particular toy or toy category. Except for labeling requirements that indicate functional hazards and the age range of the toy, there are no requirements for these characteristics of the toy, which represent inherent and recognized hazards that are integral to the function of the toy.

An example of such a hazard in Example 1 is the sharp point required for the normal functioning of the needle. Needles are dangers that are well understood by buyers of toy sewing kits, and functional cusp dangers are communicated to users as part of the normal educational process of learning to sew and purchase. Warning labels on product packaging.

Example 2 As another example, two-wheeled toy scooters have inherent and recognized hazards associated with their use (eg, instability during use, especially during learning). By meeting the requirements of this document, the potential hazards associated with its structural features (sharp edges, pinch hazards, etc.) can be minimized.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-2: Flammability

AS / NZS ISO 8124-2: 2014 specifies the categories of flammable materials that are prohibited in all toys and the flammability requirements of certain toys when exposed to minor sources of ignition.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-2: 2014 includes general requirements related to all toys, as well as specific requirements and test methods related to the following toys, which are considered to be the most hazardous toys:

Toys intended to be worn on the head: beards, beards, wigs, etc. made of hair, fluff, or material, which function similarly to hair; masks; headscarves, headwear, etc .; smooth toy elements are worn on the head, but excluding Paper novelty hats usually provided in party crackers;

Toy camouflage clothing and toys for children to play with;

Toys intended to be imported by children;

Soft stuffed toy.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-3: Migration of certain elements

AS / NZS ISO 8124-3: 2010 specifies the maximum acceptable levels and sampling and extraction methods before analyzing the migration of antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury and selenium in toy materials and toy components.

The maximum acceptable levels for migration of the elements listed above are specified from the following toy materials:

Coatings, varnishes, varnishes, printing inks, polymers and similar coatings;

Polymers and similar materials, including laminates, whether or not fabric reinforced, but excluding other textiles and nonwovens;

Paper and cardboard, up to a maximum mass per unit area of 400 g / m2;

Natural, artificial or synthetic textiles;

Glass / ceramic / metallic materials, except for lead solders for electrical connections;

Other materials, whether or not there are a large number of colors (such as wood, fiberboard, hardboard, bones and leather);

Materials used to leave marks (such as graphite in pencils and liquid ink in pens);

Flexible modeling materials, including modeling clays and gels;

Coatings used in toys include finger paints, varnishes, varnishes, glazed powders and similar materials in solid or liquid form.

The requirements in AS / NZS ISO 8124-3: 2010 apply to toys and toy components of the following toys and toy materials:

All intended food and oral contact toys, cosmetic toys and writing instruments classified as toys, regardless of any age rating or recommended age label;

All toys for children under 72 months;

No matter what age rating or recommended age label, coatings are available;

Accessible liquids, pastes, gels (eg liquid coatings, model compounds), regardless of any age rating or recommended age label.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-4: Swings, slides and similar activity toys for indoor and outdoor use

AS / NZS ISO 8124-4: 2014 specifies the requirements and test methods for household activity toys for children under 14 years of age playing in the home or family.

Products covered by AS / NZS ISO 8124-4: 2014 include swings, slides, seesaws, merry-go-rounds, rocking toys, climbing frames, fully enclosed toddler swing seats and other products designed to withstand the weight of one or more children.

Inflatable activity toys are included in the scope of AS / NZS ISO 8124-4: 2014.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-5: Determination of the total concentration of certain elements in toys

AS / NZS ISO 8124-5: 2015 specifies sampling and digestion methods before analysis of total concentrations of antimony, arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium, lead, mercury and selenium in toy materials and toy components.

The digestion method of the above elements is suitable for the following types of toy materials:

Coatings, varnishes, varnishes, printing inks, polymers and similar coatings;

Polymers and similar materials, including laminates, whether or not fabric reinforced, but excluding other textiles;

Paper, cardboard and cardboard;

Natural or synthetic textiles;

Whether the metal material is coated;

Other materials, whether or not there are a large number of colors (such as wood, fiberboard, hardboard, bones and leather);

Materials used to leave marks (such as graphite in pencils and liquid ink in pens);

Flexible modeling materials, including modeling clays and gels;

Paints used in toys, including finger paints, varnishes, varnishes and similar materials in solid or liquid form;

Packaging material that forms part of a toy or has the intended game value.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-6: Certain phthalates in toys and children's products

AS / NZS ISO 8124-6: 2014 specifies the di-determination method? Butyl phthalate (DBP), benzyl butyl ester (BBP), bis- (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate ( DEHP), di-? Octyl ester (DnOP), diisononyl ester (DINP), and diisodecyl ester (DIDP) (see Annex I) in toys and children's products.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-6: 2014 applies to toys and children's products made from plastics, textiles and coatings.

AS / NZS ISO 8124-7: Requirements and test methods for finger coatings

AS / NZS ISO 8124-7: 2015 specifies the requirements for substances and materials used in finger paints. It applies only to finger paint.

It does not apply to paints intended to be applied to the face or body, such as topcoats.

Additional requirements for marking, labelling and containers.
