IEC officially released IEC 62368-1: 2018 (3rd edition)
From the first edition in 2010 to the second edition in 2014, after a long period of improvement, the IEC released the third edition of IEC 62368-1: 2018 on October 04, 2018. The third edition will replace Previous versions and IEC 60065 and IEC 60950-1 (after the official update of the 3rd edition by the IEC, it is likely that the EU will subsequently issue the 3rd edition of EN 62368-1, replacing EN 60065 and EN 60950-1 is expected to remain unchanged (December 20, 2020). Compared to the second edition, the third edition of IEC 62368-1 contains the following major changes:
Change 1: Added requirements for outdoor products
In the second edition, the requirements for outdoor products need to refer to IEC 60950-22, and in the third edition, the requirements of IEC 60950-22 have been summarized in the appendix Annex Y-Construction requirements
Change two: Updated requirements for light radiation hazards
Standard Table 39, Hazard levels and protection instructions for laser projectors need to be in accordance with IEC 60825-1 / -5, Hazard levels and protection instructions for LED lamp projectors need to be in accordance with IEC 62471-5
Change three: increased requirements for insulating liquids
The temperature of the parts in contact with the insulating liquid should not exceed the flash point of the insulating liquid.
Change four: increased requirements for work units
The equipment gives the personnel full or partial access to the space during maintenance or operation, whether there will be mechanical injuries, mainly to protect the safety of personnel, and evaluate the requirements of relevant safety interlocks and keys or tools.
Change five: increased requirements for wireless energy transmission devices
Added Section 9.6 Electromagnetic Field Conversion Electric Power, Battery Wireless Charger for Handheld Devices. For the danger that external metals near the transmitter may be radiated and cause high temperatures, the requirements of 9.6.3 test evaluation are added.
Change six: increased requirements for fully insulated wires
Requires compliance with the standards IEC 60851-5: 2008, IEC 60317-0-7, IEC 60317-56, and the maximum insulation class Class 155 (F). The finished component should be subjected to the withstand voltage test of the production line G.5.3.4.7
Change eight: Updated the glass fixing test requirements of 4.4.3.7
This test is added to the need for laminated glass protection for Class 3 energy sources other than PS3.
Change 9: Updated requirements for sound pressure EN 50332-3
Updated Section 10.6 of the standard, EN50332-3 can be considered when EN50332-1, EN50332-2 is not met
Change ten: Updated internal and external wiring requirements in PS2 and PS3
UL-certified wires marked with VW-1 are acceptable.
Change 11: Updated 5.5.6 requirements for resistance overload test
Updated 5.5.7 SPD varistor between live and neutral to meet G.8 requirements
Change 12: Updated the test requirements for 8.11 rail fixing equipment
A single extended position shall meet the test requirements for applying downward force in the extended position
The repair and installation position shall meet the test requirements for downward force applied at the repair position
The maintenance positions and installation positions of all slides shall meet the test requirements of 81.3.2 and 81.3.3
Change Thirteen: Updated 8.6.5 level external force test requirements
External horizontal external force is 20% or 250N of the weight of the device, whichever is lower
Change 14: Updated 6.4.5.2 requirements for controlling flame spread in PS2 circuits
In the case where the second edition originally required a fireproof enclosure, in the third edition, as long as any of the conditions listed in 6.4.5.2. Is met, the fireproof enclosure may not be required.
Change fifteen: Clarified the requirements for 5.7.4 contact current of non-grounded accessible components
Change Sixteen: Updated 5.5.2.2 requirements for capacitor discharge test after disconnection of connected devices
Don't worry about X-cap's 20% tolerance.
Change XVII: Updated 5.4.4.9 requirements for solid-state insulation with frequencies above 30kHz
The withstand voltage test can be performed based on the attenuation coefficient of the high-frequency electric field.
Change Eighteen: Updated requirements for ES3 mains / ES3 isolated (5.3.1)
Accessible ES1 or ES2 circuits are extracted from 5.3.1: ES2 or ES3 circuits and shall be separated from the ES3 power supply by double protection or enhanced protection. In addition, the following applies:
Under single fault conditions in the circuit between ES2 / ES3 and accessible ES1, the current or voltage level must not exceed the ES1 limit
Under single fault conditions in circuits between ES2 / ES3 and accessible ES2, the current or voltage level should not exceed the ES2 limit
Change Nineteen: Updated G.15.2 requirements
Hydrostatic pressure under normal working conditions, the maximum working pressure is changed from 5 times to 3 times
Hydrostatic pressure under abnormal and single fault conditions, maximum working pressure changed from 3 times to 2 times
Change 20: Updated Annex M battery requirements
Battery standard IEC62133, amended to IEC62133-1, IEC62133-2, button battery M.2.1
The requirements of the secondary lithium battery fireproof case, even if it has passed the single failure test, do not accept the fireproof case, unless the battery passes the PS1 assessment, the fireproof case is not required.
